About Proforma Invoice Generator
The Proforma Invoice Generator creates professional proforma invoices for businesses โ a preliminary bill of sale sent to buyers before the actual supply of goods or services. Unlike a tax invoice, a proforma invoice is not a demand for payment and does not trigger GST liability. It serves as a quotation or commitment to sell at specified prices, helping buyers understand the cost before placing an order.
Proforma invoices are widely used in international trade, B2B transactions, and custom orders. They include product descriptions, quantities, prices, applicable taxes, delivery terms, and validity period. While not mandatory under GST law, they are essential business practice for confirming orders and obtaining advance payments or letters of credit. Our generator creates professional proforma invoices with GST components shown separately, which can be easily converted to tax invoices once the order is confirmed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a proforma invoice valid under GST?
A proforma invoice is not a valid GST document for claiming ITC or for accounting purposes. It does not trigger GST liability and cannot be used to claim input tax credit. It is essentially a quotation or estimate. Once the order is confirmed, a proper tax invoice must be issued under Section 31 of the CGST Act for the actual supply of goods or services.
What is the difference between a proforma invoice and a tax invoice?
A proforma invoice is a preliminary document showing the proposed cost โ it is not a demand for payment and does not attract GST. A tax invoice is a statutory document issued at the time of supply, containing GSTIN, HSN codes, tax amounts, and is the basis for ITC claims. Proforma invoices are used before the sale is confirmed; tax invoices are issued after the sale is finalized.
