IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) is an 11-character alphanumeric code that uniquely identifies a bank branch in India. It is used for electronic fund transfers like NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS. The code is assigned by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to each bank branch.

The IFSC code has 11 characters: First 4 letters represent the bank name (e.g., SBIN for State Bank of India), the 5th character is always '0' reserved for future use, and the last 6 characters represent the specific branch code.

You can find your bank's IFSC code on your cheque book, passbook, bank's official website, or using our IFSC search tool. It's also printed on the first page of your passbook and on every cheque leaf.

IFSC code is used for electronic fund transfers (NEFT, RTGS, IMPS) and has 11 alphanumeric characters. MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) code is a 9-digit code used for cheque processing and clearing. Both uniquely identify bank branches.

Yes, IFSC code is required when adding a new bank account as a beneficiary in UPI apps for bank-to-bank transfers. However, for regular UPI payments using VPA (Virtual Payment Address), IFSC code is not needed.

Yes, IFSC code can change when banks merge, get acquired, or undergo restructuring. For example, after the merger of associate banks with SBI in 2017, many IFSC codes changed. Always verify the current IFSC code before making transfers.

If you enter a wrong IFSC code, the transaction may fail or money could be credited to a wrong account. If the IFSC code doesn't exist, the transaction will be rejected and money will be refunded. Always double-check the IFSC code before confirming transfer.

Our database includes IFSC codes of 150+ banks covering over 1,50,000 branches across India. We regularly update our database with RBI's official data. However, for newly opened branches, there might be a slight delay in updation.
